Our love affair with the Doberman started back in 1994 after we met Paulette and Price Bethel. At that time
they had Prince Porsche v Franckenhorst, a black male, and Mi Miss Testarosa v Gravin, a red female. I had just
joined Intermountain Therapy Animals with my Yellow Labrador, Bo, and German Shepherd Dog, Cheyenne.
Bo excelled as a Therapy Dog, but Cheyenne did not have the temperament for the type of work that was required.
So Paulette introduced me to the sport of Schutzhund and I was immediately hooked! Price lost Prince to cancer,
and in September, brought home Ulan v Adlercrest. He was the most handsome dog I had ever seen. I had also fallen
in love with Testa's beautiful red color and, learning that Uly's father was red, knew he might have a good chance
of producing a red male. My mind was made up. I wanted a red male. Little did I know it would take until 1999,
and he would not be red, but a beautiful black and rust. His name was to be Baron and I was in love with him from
the day his little head hit the ground!
Cheyenne went to the Bridge in September 2001. Bo was getting older and Baron was now my therapy dog. We were concerned
because Baron had never been an only child and thought we had better look for another dog. Richard wanted a litttle
red female. I had planned on getting him one for his birthday in October, but in March, 2002, I happened to check
the Adlercrest Kennel web site and they had one red female left from their most recent litter.
In April, 2002, we went to Riverside, California and picked up our girl. We drove back up to Salt Lake. She was
Richard's little princess from that very first moment. She slept on his chest for much of the drive back and immediately
decided that she liked to be held. You'll notice from one of her photos that, despite her size, she still enjoys
being picked up by her daddy. She, Baron, and Bo were able to enjoy that summer together, and Mia grew to love
both the boys. Her favorite activity that first summer was sitting in the kiddie pool with Bo. Sadly, in September
of 2002, Bo went to the Bridge.
